Design guidelines
Follow these rules for optimal cost and lead time. Our engineers flag any DFM issues during quote review.
Minimum 0.5 mm for plastics, 0.8 mm for metals. Walls below this will be flagged during DFM review — we'll suggest ribs or design changes.
Standard depth-to-diameter ratio 4:1. Deeper holes (up to 10:1) possible with gun drilling but add cost — mention if required.
All internal corners must have a radius (no sharp 90° corners). Use the largest radius your design allows to reduce cycle time.
Standard threads (M2 – M64) tapped directly. Smaller threads (M1 – M1.6) require thread milling — specify on drawing.
Default ISO 2768-m applies if no tolerance given. Call out only the critical dimensions — avoid blanket tight tolerances, they double the price.
STEP (.stp / .step) preferred for 3D. Include a 2D PDF drawing with GD&T, tolerances, threads, and surface finish callouts.
