Design

Design guidelines

Follow these rules for optimal cost and lead time. Our engineers flag any DFM issues during quote review.

01
Wall Thickness

Minimum 0.5 mm for plastics, 0.8 mm for metals. Walls below this will be flagged during DFM review — we'll suggest ribs or design changes.

02
Drill Depth

Standard depth-to-diameter ratio 4:1. Deeper holes (up to 10:1) possible with gun drilling but add cost — mention if required.

03
Internal Corners

All internal corners must have a radius (no sharp 90° corners). Use the largest radius your design allows to reduce cycle time.

04
Threads

Standard threads (M2 – M64) tapped directly. Smaller threads (M1 – M1.6) require thread milling — specify on drawing.

05
Tolerance Callouts

Default ISO 2768-m applies if no tolerance given. Call out only the critical dimensions — avoid blanket tight tolerances, they double the price.

06
File Formats

STEP (.stp / .step) preferred for 3D. Include a 2D PDF drawing with GD&T, tolerances, threads, and surface finish callouts.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Q01What tolerance can you actually hold on aluminum?+
On 6061-T6, we routinely hold ±0.01 mm on critical features when you call it out on the drawing. General dimensions follow ISO 2768-m (±0.1 mm on typical sizes). We verify tight tolerances on CMM before shipping.
Q02Can you machine PEEK or other high-performance plastics?+
Yes. We regularly machine PEEK, PEI (Ultem), PPS, PPSU, and PTFE for medical and aerospace customers. We keep purge cycles between plastic and metal jobs and use dedicated tooling to prevent contamination.
Q03What's the real lead time for prototypes?+
Most prototypes ship in 5–7 business days from PO. Simple geometries in aluminum or POM can be done in 3 days. For rush work, call us — we can often compress lead time with a priority fee.
Q04Do you work with ITAR or export-controlled parts?+
We do not handle ITAR-controlled designs. For dual-use and commercial aerospace R&D work, we sign NDAs and maintain drawing confidentiality per our information security policy.
Q05What file formats do you accept?+
STEP (.step / .stp) is preferred for 3D geometry. Also accept IGES, Parasolid (.x_t), and SolidWorks (.sldprt). 2D drawings must be PDF with GD&T callouts for tolerance, threads, and surface finish.
Q06How are parts packaged for international shipping?+
Individual parts wrapped in anti-static foam or VCI paper, boxed with shock indicators on request. Shipped DDP or DAP via DHL / FedEx / UPS for air, or consolidated sea freight for volume orders.
